My Top 10 Halloween Flicks for a Spooktacular Movie Marathon
Halloween is the best time of year for all things spooky, quirky, and a little bit magical. And what better way to get into the spirit than curling up with some of the most iconic Halloween films? Whether you’re into witches, slashers, or cozy town vibes, there’s something for everyone here. Grab your popcorn (or maybe a cup of tea), because here’s my rundown of the Top 10 Halloween Flicks to get you in the spooky mood!
x
1. Halloweentown (1998)
We’re starting strong with a classic from the Disney Channel. Halloweentown is pure nostalgia and childhood magic. Who didn’t dream of visiting a town where it’s Halloween every single day?! Marnie discovering her witchy heritage while zooming around on a flying bus—brilliant! It’s cheesy, it’s fun, and it’s a Halloween essential. Plus, Aggie Cromwell (played by Debbie Reynolds) is the grandmother we all wished for.
x
2. Hocus Pocus (1993)
It’s just not Halloween until you’ve seen the Sanderson sisters causing chaos in Salem. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as these over-the-top witches are pure genius. Add in a talking cat, some teenage antics, and the ultimate Halloween party vibe, and you’ve got a film that’s become a staple of spooky season. Not to mention that “I Put a Spell on You” performance? Absolute legend.
x
3. Scream (1996)
Time to switch gears a bit! Scream revived the slasher genre with its smart, self-aware twist on horror. It’s the perfect mix of scary and clever, with characters who actually know the rules of surviving a horror film (but somehow still manage to mess it up). Ghostface is an iconic villain, and the whodunit aspect keeps you guessing right until the end. It's a classic—and will definitely make you rethink answering your phone at night!
x
4. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Is it a Halloween film? Is it a Christmas film? Trick question—it’s both! Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas is the perfect crossover between spooky and festive. Jack Skellington’s adventure to bring Christmas to Halloweentown is full of quirky charm, stunning animation, and songs you’ll be humming long after. It’s the perfect bridge between Halloween and the festive season, so it works for both October and December.
x
5. Practical Magic (1998)
If you prefer magic over mayhem, Practical Magic is your film. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as witchy sisters with a family curse? Yes, please! It’s got a bit of romance, a dash of family drama, and just enough spooky vibes to feel right for Halloween. And can we talk about the midnight margaritas scene? Instant mood. It’s cozy, witchy, and perfect for a chilled Halloween night in.
x
6. The Craft (1996)
Speaking of witchy vibes, The Craft is a ‘90s teen witch classic. It’s all about a group of outcast girls who discover their magical powers and, let’s just say, things get a little out of hand. There’s revenge, power plays, and plenty of spells gone wrong. Fairuza Balk as Nancy is pure chaos in the best way. It’s edgy, dark, and a definite Halloween must-watch for anyone who’s ever felt a little... magical.
x
7. Totally Killer (2023)
One of the newest entries on this list, Totally Killer is an absolute blast. Imagine Back to the Future but with a slasher twist! When a teenage girl accidentally time-travels back to the 1980s, she has to stop a masked killer who’s been terrorizing her town. It’s funny, bloody, and packed with brilliant ‘80s references. Think Scream meets time travel, with plenty of tongue-in-cheek moments. A fresh addition to your Halloween marathon!
x
8. Fear Street Trilogy (2021)
I’m counting the Fear Street trilogy as one spot because you really need to binge all three! Based on R.L. Stine’s books, these films are a love letter to horror fans, with each part taking place in a different time period (from the 1990s to the 1600s). It’s got slashers, supernatural curses, and enough twists to keep you on edge. Plus, the soundtrack is killer—pun intended! It’s the perfect mix of nostalgia and fresh horror.
x
9. The Addams Family (1991)
Is it even Halloween without The Addams Family? This ghoulish (but surprisingly wholesome) family is a year-round spooky mood, but they’re especially perfect for Halloween. Morticia and Gomez? Absolute couple goals. The dark humour, the eccentric vibes—The Addams Family just gets it. Whether you’re rewatching the original films or diving into the new Wednesday series, there’s something timeless about this creepy, kooky crew.
x
10. Beetlejuice (1988)
Last but definitely not least, we’ve got Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice. It’s weird, it’s hilarious, and it’s got just the right amount of creepy. Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice is pure chaos, while Winona Ryder’s Lydia is the ultimate goth icon. Between the quirky afterlife scenes and that legendary “Day-O” dinner party, it’s no wonder this film has become a cult classic. Just don’t say his name three times—unless you want a whole load of trouble.
x
And there you have it —my top 10 Halloween films! Whether you’re into slasher thrills, witchy vibes, or quirky supernatural chaos, this list has you covered for the perfect Halloween movie marathon. Add some sweets, turn the lights down low, and settle in for a frightfully fun night!

Beetlejuice 2 really ruined it for me, it should of stayed with the one from the 80s and leave it there. The classic is always going to be a super fav of mine as well!

Glad to see Scream on that list, that's def part of my top 3 as well. Even through the more parts they come out with, some are great, but others are debatable and then you have the key ones you can always rewatch.

You can never go wrong with some Addam's Family, especially the Wednesday TV series, classic for Halloween for sure!

Hocus Pocus is another one I absolutely love, the 2nd one that came out 2 years ago, had me rolling on the floor laughing tho, it really brought modern to the witches in a unique way, it was was just so weird and funny, but the classic will always beat the 2nd one.

Great list of Halloween movies, loved reading this, def will help someone to binge watch a few during the Halloween weekend for suree! Last edited by: Owen - 4 months ago
